David Watkins, CFA, Partner

 

David led Heitman, a $26 billion real estate investment advisory firm, into the senior housing sector. David was an integral part of the team that invested $450 million in senior housing assets, including identifying Sunrise Senior Living as an attractive JV partner. David vetted sites and established pricing and lease‐up targets in connection with a 7-property, $240 million development program. At Heitman (www.heitman.com), David was a member of the firm's European and Asian Investment Committees, which approved and closed in excess of  $5 billion of transaction activity during his tenure.

David served on the Board of Directors of the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing & Care Industries (www.NIC.org) from 2007 to 2015. David sits on the Editorial Board of InvestigAge, a Mather Lifeways resource on senior housing, and writes a blog on middle market senior housing (www.investigage.org). He is a Trustee of Fourth Presbyterian Church of Chicago and Chair of the Property Committee.

He is a Fellow of the Homer Hoyt Institute (www.hoyt.org/homer-hoyt-institute), an independent, non-profit research foundation established in 1967, dedicated to improving the quality of public and private real estate decisions.

 

David is a CFA charter holder, earned an MBA (finance and statistics) from University of Chicago’s Graduate School of Business and a BA (cum laude) from Amherst College.

 

Douglas A. Cooper, Partner

Mr Cooper has over 30 years of acquisitions, finance and development experience working with iconic private equity and real estate companies such as Fortress Investment Group (NYSE: FIG) and Melvin Simon Associates, predecessor to Simon Property Group (NYSE: SPG), as well as Union Realty Partners, Inc. and Quadrangle Development Corp.  During his career, he’s been directly responsible for the development of over 5 million s.f. of multi-family and commercial property valued at over $1.5 billion. 

In 2014-2016, Doug was responsible for East Coast acquisitions at Fortress to grow its externally managed senior housing REIT (NYSE: SNR).  During his tenure at Fortress, SNR invested approximately $1.8 billion of capital in over 60 independent and assisted living properties.

Prior to joining Fortress, Doug was a principal at Union Realty Partners, Inc. where he acquired and developed over 1 million s.f. of office, multi-family and single-family property.

Doug completed an M.S. degree in real estate and urban development from American University; a B.S. degree in building construction from Virginia Tech University; and also earned a certificate of completion in the Advanced Management Development Program at Harvard University.
